Old
Handicapping Myths
Back in the 1980's and 90's, the prevailing handicapping principle
(books, articles, etc.) was to stay away from horses coming off a
rest unless they had X number of workouts and the workouts had
to be within a certain number of days, etc.. Our profiles showed
the exact opposite and our subscribers made money off that
fact. Now all we hear about is how freshened horses come back
and win. However, many still say to stay away from horses coming
back from long layoffs until they have a race or two. There are
trainers that excel at bringing horses back from a year or
longer and winning first time out. The
profiles will show
you who they are.
Another 1980's and 90's prevailing handicapping principle was
to stay away from horses making a big class drop or dropping
below their claiming price because the trainer was trying to get
rid of the horses, for whatever reason. Again, our profiles
were telling us a different story. Many trainers were just
trying to steal a race due to the prevailing mentality of the
damaged horse. Even if the horses was damaged goods, when
you drop from 32K Claiming race down to a 8K Claiming race,
damaged or not, many times the horses is still good enough to
beat the horses at the bottom of the barrel. Our
subscribers
still make money off the trainers who do this, especially
those that drop their horses below the claiming price
(DBCP).
